EGAN GRAMMAR SCHOOL ALUMMNI: THE MILLENIUM SET (2000) GOES BACK TO SCHOOL


It was a day filled with enthusiasm and joy as the past students (the millennium set year 2000) of Egan Grammar school stormed their old school’s premises on Wednesday, 22nd September,2021, to not just motivate the students in their academic pursuits but also recognized the high performers in their midst with gifts and awards.

The ceremony which was chaired by the head boy of the set, Kazeem Lawal, who was duly represented by the Project Coordinator, Odunowo Toyin, had in attendance some of the past students of the citadel.

The event which started with the Egan senior secondary school, witnessed a large turn as the students turned out in their numbers to grace the occasion. The anchor/master of ceremony of the day, in person of Ogunleye Moses, encouraged the students never for once relent in their effort to succeed. In his opening address, he encouraged them to always look on the brighter side of life.

In his speech, Christopher Nwabusi, made the students understand that whichever department they find themselves, they can always excel. He cited several examples among the past students to show how they have all excelled in their chosen careers.

The principal of the senior secondary school, Mrs. Ede-Agege R.E, thanked the visiting alumni for their homecoming. She expressed her heart felt gratitude towards the gesture as she prayed for more of the activities. She specially recognized Odunnowo Toyin, being the only female in the train for her dedication and commitments. In recognition of the service of the principal, award of excellence was presented to her by the alumni.

The senior school program came to an end with vote of thanks from Jesutofunmi, one of the senior students’ beneficiaries. She expressed her gratitude on behalf of her colleagues and promised to be good examples to their younger ones.
The train of event moved on to Egan Junior School to wrap up the program. In his speech to the junior students, Owolabi Oluwatosin, pointed out that failing in certain subjects or areas should not be the deciding factor of their lives. He reiterated the importance of not giving up, no matter what life may throw at them, pointing out that those that don’t give up after several obstacles find succeeding at anything as hobby.

Dr. Sulaimon cautioned the students against the bad effects of keeping bad companies. He encouraged them to be of good conducts while maintaining good moral uprights at all times. He charged them to always be good ambassadors of Egan Junior Grammar school. 

The principal of Junior Grammar school, Mrs. Ogun Esther Olubunmi, was full of praises in her remarks towards the event. She thanked the brains and organizers of the event for not forgetting their academic source. She prayed for more strengths and vigour, hoping that the event will be an annual thing. Award of excellence was presented to her in recognition of her service to the school. To further show her appreciation, a typed letter of appreciation was presented by the principal on behalf of the school.

The areas of recognitions for the senior students were the outstanding performers in the three departments (Science, Commercial, Arts), while the areas of recognitions for the junior school was the overall best students, (Yusuf Khadijat Omotoke and Azubike Mmesoma Rita), the most creative student (Chidera Emmaneul), and the best behaved (Enigbokan Semilore).

In his vote of thanks, the most creative student expressed his gratitude and appreciation. He promised to be more determined in his studies.

On her final thought, Mrs. Ogun Esther Olubunmi, made some verbal requests, germane among these is a computer laboratory. She expressed her wish for the school to have a computer laboratory has this will further enhance the learning of ICT in the school.
